George Walton was born in 1741 in Farmville. He was orphaned when he was young and his uncle raised him. He did go to school, but he also self-taught himself a lot of his knowledge. After that he moved to Savannah, Georgia. He got involved with politics and became Secretary of the Provincial Congress. He was later made President of the Council of Safety.
He was later elected to join the Continental Congress. He was a member of that until 1781.
Because he was on so many committees, he was an important man. He believed firmly that America should be independent from Britain and was a signer of the declaration.
He lived a very eventful life in politics. In 1775, he married Dorothy Camber. He had a couple of sons and later died in February 1804.
